Finally after so many days planning for it the Caucasus 2104 riders team met in Padova Hotel Saggittario where at 09.30 hours the journey began.
The sky was cloudy threatening to rain, first stop in Ljubjana where we arrived at 12.30 hours without having to wear the rain coats.
Fabio Fontanive (Halliburton) was there waiting for us. After a quick lunch we took a look at the down town, Ljubjana centre of town is a well-kept and resemble so many central Europe towns.
We left Ljubjana behind us and kept riding toward Hungary through green hills countryside and the weather turned sunny and pleasant at last. We went from Slovenia to Hungary without having to go through any “border” this is one of the European union positive results. We rode for several km on very well kept highways keeping a good speed. Near the Balaton lake the ride took us though a flat land of immense wheat fields, one after the other. We reached Budapest at 19.00 hours and we were engulfed in the city town traffic. Checked in to the hotel and out to visit the Buda hill taking the old funicular rail way built in the 1870. Buda is reach of historical buildings and churches. Dinner was in Pest on the opposite side of the Danube river, we tasted the local goulash and beer. The city skyline at night looks very nice with so many building/monuments floodlit.
The first transferring trip leg is the longest one too of our journey and that was possible thanks to the good roads conditions.
The rider did well today even though we were a “little” sleepy being up until late last night to watch the Italian team playing the World Cup.
Tomorrow we will leave Hungary, crossing Slovakia and entering Poland where we plan to stop for the night close to the Byelorussia border.
Today we rode 905 km in 09.00 hours
